As a Chelsea fan, losing is never something I enjoy, especially when we come so close to progressing to the next round. Last night’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool at Anfield was one of those matches that left me with mixed feelings. We competed, showed some fight, and had opportunities to win, but in the end, we are the ones going home disappointed.

Chelsea and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, but Liverpool eventually won 6-5 on penalties. Honestly, it hurts, but that is football.
A Close Game That Could Have Gone Either Way
One thing I liked about Chelsea's performance was that we did not look completely out of place at Anfield. Liverpool are never an easy team to face on their home ground, but Chelsea managed to compete with them.
Morgan Rogers gave us the lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, and for a moment, I was hoping we could build on that advantage. Unfortunately, that hope did not last long. Just three minutes later, Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool after Wesley Fofana conceded a penalty through a handball.
That incident was frustrating because we had worked to put ourselves in a good position, only to give Liverpool a way back into the game three minutes later. At this level, little mistakes can change everything.
Both teams had opportunities to find a winner in the second half, but neither could take them. Mike Penders also deserves credit for making important saves and keeping Chelsea in the contest.
Fofana's Miss Was Painful
I honestly felt for Wesley Fofana when he missed the decisive penalty. Imagine conceding the penalty that allows your opponent to equalise and then missing the kick that sends your team out of the competition. That must be a difficult moment for any player.
However, football is a team sport, and I don't think it is fair to put the entire blame on one player. Chelsea had 90 minutes to win the game, and we failed to take our chances.
Emmanuel Emegha, who was making his Chelsea debut, also missed his penalty after being denied by Giorgi Mamardashvili. It was a tough introduction, but I hope he learns from the experience and gets more opportunities to prove himself.
My Biggest Concern as a Chelsea Fan
This defeat comes after our 2-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham, making it two consecutive defeats. That is what worries me more than the Carabao Cup elimination itself.
Xabi Alonso described it as a solid performance, and I understand his point. Chelsea competed well, and the match was close. However, competing is not always enough. We need to turn good performances into victories.
I also understand Alonso's view that the Premier League is now the priority. Still, as a Chelsea supporter, I want to see this team develop the mentality to win difficult matches, especially against strong opponents.
For now, I will take the positives from our performance while hoping we correct the mistakes that cost us.
We may be out of the Carabao Cup, but the season is far from over. My darling Chelsea must learn from this disappointment, regain confidence, and focus on the challenges ahead.
