I won't lie, this transfer completely caught me off guard.
A few days ago, I saw reports linking Andrey Santos with Manchester United. My first reaction was to laugh. We have all seen plenty of transfer rumours that disappear after a day or two, so I didn't think there was any truth to it. In my mind, Chelsea would never sell such a promising young player to one of our Premier League rivals.

Then I woke up and saw that the deal had actually been agreed.
Honestly, I had to check more than one source because it did not feel real. It just shows how quickly football can surprise us. One minute you're calling a story fake, and the next minute it's happening.
As a Chelsea fan, this one is difficult to understand.
I have always liked Santos. We haven't seen much of him in a Chelsea shirt, but from everything he showed during his loan spell, it was obvious that the talent is there. He's calm on the ball, works hard, and looks like the type of midfielder who can only get better with regular football.
At the same time, I can also see why the club made this decision. Chelsea already have a packed midfield, and breaking into the starting eleven was not going to be easy. With Moisés Caicedo playing such an important role and other midfielders also competing for places, Santos probably knew his chances would be limited.
Even with all that, I still did not expect Chelsea to sell him to Manchester United. If he was not in the club's long-term plans, I honestly thought we'd send him to another league instead of helping strengthen an English rival. That's the part that doesn't sit well with me.
Maybe the club simply felt that £50 million was too good to refuse. Football is not just about emotions anymore; it's also about making business decisions. Whether this turns out to be a smart piece of business or a huge mistake is something only time will tell.
For Santos himself, I hope he gets the opportunity to play consistently. Young players improve by getting minutes on the pitch, and if United give him that chance, he could become an excellent midfielder.
I'm just hoping we don't end up looking back in a few years and wondering why we let him go.
This transfer is another reminder that you should never dismiss a rumour too quickly. Sometimes the stories we laugh at are the ones that end up becoming reality.
