‎There are matches you enjoy, and then there are matches that leave you mentally exhausted. Egypt's clash with Australia was definitely the second kind. From the first whistle to the final penalty, it felt like the game could swing either way at any moment.

‎I actually thought Egypt had done enough to finish the contest in normal time. They started brightly, controlled long spells of the game, and looked confident after taking the lead through Emam Ashour. When Marmoush missed the chance to make it two early in the second half, I had that familiar feeling football fans know too well, the feeling that a missed opportunity might come back to hurt you.

‎Sure enough, Australia found their way back into the match. It was not the prettiest equaliser, but they didn't care. At that stage, all that mattered was getting back into the game, and they managed exactly that. From there, the tension just kept building.

‎Extra time felt like both teams were running on pure determination. Salah tried to make things happen whenever he got on the ball, but Australia defended with everything they had. By the time the referee blew for penalties, I don't think either set of fans could have been any more nervous.

‎Then came the moment everyone will be talking about, that's Salah's Panenka. I couldn't believe he actually tried it in a World Cup shootout. That's either incredible confidence or complete madness, and this time it worked perfectly. Only a player who truly trusts himself would even think about attempting something like that with so much at stake.

‎I also felt for Australia. Losing on penalties is one of the hardest ways to leave a tournament because a few inches can decide everything. They battled for over 120 minutes, gave everything they had, and still went home empty-handed. That's football. It can be unbelievably cruel.

‎What impressed me most about Egypt was not flashy football or moments of brilliance. It was their composure when the pressure reached its highest point. After losing several penalty shootouts in the past, many teams would have carried that baggage with them. But instead, they stayed calm, stepped up, and got the job done.

‎Now comes an even bigger test in the Round of 16. Whoever stands on the other side won't underestimate this Egyptian team anymore. They may not be the tournament favourites, but they have shown they have the heart to survive difficult nights. Sometimes that's exactly what a team needs to build a memorable World Cup run.
