‎The Enzo Fernández situation is one of those transfer stories that could become very interesting before the window closes.

‎Manchester City already missed Chelsea’s reported Friday 5pm deadline to make a bid for the midfielder, with Chelsea valuing Fernández at around £120 million. But does that mean City have given up? I honestly don't think we can say that yet.

‎The situation at Manchester City makes the story even more interesting right now. Their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal exposed some weaknesses in midfield, and the absence of Rodri was certainly noticeable. Now, with reports suggesting that City have agreed a fee with Barcelona for Rodri, the question becomes: could Enzo Fernández be the player they turn to next?

‎From City's point of view, it would make sense to look for a midfielder capable of controlling games, progressing the ball and bringing some stability to the middle of the pitch. Fernández certainly has many of those qualities.

‎There is also the reported sale of Tijjani Reijnders to Al Qadsiah for around £51 million, which could provide City with more money to spend before the transfer window closes.

‎But this is where Chelsea fans will be watching closely.

‎Chelsea's position has reportedly been that Fernández is expected to stay for the entire 2026/27 season. Missing the initial deadline does not change that. If anything, I think Chelsea have a strong reason to stand firm.

‎Enzo is an important player for the team, and Maresca knows him well from their time together at Chelsea. If the manager is looking to build his midfield around players he trusts, losing Fernández now would be a huge setback.

‎At the same time, I can understand why Manchester City might be tempted to test Chelsea one more time. The transfer window is entering its final stages, and sometimes clubs make unexpected moves when they realise they have a weakness that needs fixing.

‎For me, the biggest question is not whether City can afford Fernández. It's whether Chelsea are actually willing to sell him.

‎If City put a huge offer on the table, Chelsea will have a difficult decision to make. But I personally would rather see the club keep Enzo and continue building around him.

‎After the Community Shield defeat, City clearly have questions to answer in midfield. Whether Fernández is the answer is another matter entirely.

‎But one thing is certain, and that's the fact that the final days of this transfer window could be very interesting.
