I came away from this match with mixed feelings. On one hand, the USA did exactly what they needed to do by beating Bosnia 2-0 and reaching the World Cup round of 16. On the other hand, Balogun's red card has left a huge question mark ahead of their next game against Belgium.

The first half was not packed with chances, and both teams looked a little cautious. It felt like the game needed one moment to spark it into life, and that's exactly what happened just before halftime. Bosnia made a costly mistake at the back, Balogun reacted quickly, and suddenly the USA had the lead. As a striker, that's what you're expected to do, to punish defensive errors.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan until that challenge in the second half.
When the referee initially let play continue, I did not think it was anything too serious. But once VAR got involved and the replay was shown, it was easier to understand why the decision changed. It was not a malicious tackle in my opinion, but it was definitely late and dangerous enough to earn a straight red card. Balogun probably didn't mean to catch his opponent like that, but intent does not always matter when a challenge is that risky.
At that point, I honestly expected Bosnia to take control. Playing against ten men in a World Cup knockout match usually gives the other team a huge advantage. Surprisingly, that never happened. Instead, the USA became even more focused. They defended as a unit, stayed compact, and never allowed Bosnia to build any real momentum.
I think that's what impressed me the most. Sometimes, a team shows its true character when things stop going according to plan. Rather than panic, the Americans stayed calm and worked harder for each other. It was not flashy football, but it was effective.
Then came Malik Tillman's free kick, and what a moment it was. It was struck beautifully and gave the goalkeeper no chance. That goal completely settled the match and allowed the fans to enjoy the final few minutes without too much stress.
Now all eyes turn to Belgium, and I can't help but wonder how much Balogun's absence will affect the team. He's been an important attacking outlet, and replacing him won't be easy. At the same time, this performance showed that the USA have plenty of fighting spirit, and sometimes that belief can carry a team further than people expect.
