The biggest talking point now is PSG's decision to pull out of the race. From what has been reported, the French champions were not really comfortable with the amount of money involved, both in terms of the transfer fee and the player's salary expectations. Instead of stretching beyond their financial plans, they decided to step aside.
That decision has opened the door even wider for Real Madrid who is also interested in the player.
Reports suggest Madrid have already agreed personal terms with Diomande and are now focused on convincing RB Leipzig to sell. Though it won't be easy. Leipzig have already turned down a huge offer and seem determined to hold out for an even bigger fee. Considering how highly they rate the youngster, that is not too surprising.
What I find most impressive is how quickly Diomande's career has taken off. Not too long ago, he was simply trying to establish himself in senior football. Fast forward to today, and clubs like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and PSG have all been linked with him. That's an incredible rise for a player who is still only 19 of age.
Whenever I've watched clips of him, one thing stands out immediately, and that's his confidence. He loves taking defenders on, is not afraid to run at pace, and always looks like he believes he can make something happen. Those are qualities every top club looks for, especially in young attacking players.
Still, I can't help but wonder whether the transfer fee is getting a little out of hand. Paying well over €100 million for someone with only one breakthrough season is a massive gamble to me, no matter how talented they are. We have seen young stars struggle under the weight of huge expectations before, so whichever club signs him will need to be patient.
If Real Madrid manage to complete the deal, it would fit perfectly with the strategy they have followed in recent years, and that's bringing in elite young talents before they reach their peak. They have done it successfully before, and they clearly believe Diomande could be the next player to develop into a world-class star.
Nothing is official for now, but it definitely feels like Real Madrid are in the driving seat. Whether Leipzig soften their stance or Madrid return with an improved offer remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain: and that's the fact that this is a transfer story worth keeping an eye on, because I don't think we have heard the last chapter just yet.
