‎As parents, we often think we are the ones teaching our children everything they need to know. We teach them how to speak, behave, and face life's challenges. But recently, my children reminded me that sometimes parents are the ones who need to learn.

‎A few days ago, I had a stressful day. There was a lot on my mind, family responsibilities, work, and the general situation in our country. Like many Nigerians, there are days when you think about the future and wonder how things will eventually turn out. That particular day was one of those days.

‎I sat quietly in the living room, lost in my thoughts. Meanwhile, my children were playing around the house. They were laughing, chasing one another, and making noise as children naturally do. Normally, I would have asked them to calm down, but this time I simply watched them.

‎What actually caught my attention was how quickly they moved on from things. One moment, they were arguing over a toy. The next moment, they were laughing together as if nothing had happened. There was no grudge, no bitterness, and no long period of silence.

‎As I watched them, I realized something. That children have a special way of enjoying the present moment. They don't spend hours worrying about tomorrow. They don't carry the weight of yesterday everywhere they go. They simply enjoy the moment they are currently in.

‎Then one of my children walked up to me and asked, "Daddy, why are you looking so serious?"

‎That simple question hit me harder than expected.

‎I looked around and saw my family gathered in the same room. My wife was busy with her usual activities, my children were happy and healthy, and our home was filled with life. Yet I was sitting there allowing worries about things beyond my control to steal the joy of that moment.

‎That day, my children taught me something valuable that life is not just only about solving problems but it is also about appreciating the blessings that are already around us.

‎Of course, responsibilities will always be there. Challenges will come and go. But if we spend all our time worrying, we may miss the beautiful moments happening right in front of us.

‎And since that day, I have tried to be more present with my family. The future is important, but so is today's laughter, today's conversations, and today's memories.

‎Sometimes the best lessons don't come from books or motivational speakers. Sometimes they come from the little people running around your house, reminding you to smile and enjoy life while you can.
