One thing I have come to realize is that people often have plenty of opinions about situations they have never experienced firsthand. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and say, "If I were you, I would have done this," or "You should have handled it differently." But life does not work that way.
There is a saying that goes, "don't let anyone who has not been in your shoes tell you how to tie your laces" , and I think there's a lot of truth in it.
Every one of us is fighting a different battle. We may smile in public while carrying worries nobody knows about. Some people have strong support systems, while others have to figure everything out on their own. Looking at someone's life from the outside never gives you the full picture, so it's unfair to judge their choices as if you know everything they have been through.
I have been in situations where people gave advice that sounded simple, but if they had experienced what I was facing, they would probably have understood why things were not as easy as they imagined. Sometimes life forces you to make difficult decisions, and those decisions only make sense to the person living through them.
That does not mean we should completely ignore advice . Good advice is valuable, especially when it comes from someone who has walked a similar path or from people who genuinely care about our well-being. Those kinds of people don't judge first. They listen, try to understand, and then offer suggestions with empathy instead of criticism.
I have also learned not to compare my journey with someone else's. We all have different starting points, different opportunities, and different obstacles. What works for one person may not work for another, and that's perfectly okay. We each have our own pace, and there's no need to rush just because someone else is moving faster.
This saying is also a reminder for me to be careful when dealing with others. Before criticizing someone, I try to remember that I don't know the full story. A little understanding can go much further than a harsh opinion.
At the end of the day, you are the one living your life. Listen to advice, learn from people with experience, but don't let the opinions of those who have never walked your path make you question your own journey. Only the person wearing the shoes truly knows where they hurt, and only that person knows the best way to tie the laces.
