When I saw the heartbreaking news about the earthquake in Venezuela, I could not stop thinking about the families who lost their homes and loved ones. But in the middle of all that sadness, there was something else that stood out to me, and that's the people who ran toward the danger instead of away from it.
The rescue workers, doctors, nurses, volunteers, and even ordinary people who helped save children and cared for survivors are the true heroes of that disaster. They did not know the people they were helping, yet they gave their time, energy, and sometimes even risked their own lives to help complete strangers. That kind of compassion deserves more than a simple "thank you."
If I were given the opportunity, the first thing I would do is make sure these heroes know that their efforts are appreciated. Too often, once the news moves on, the people who worked tirelessly behind are forgotten. I would love to organize events where they are recognized and celebrated, not because they asked for praise, but because they truly earned and deserve it.
I would also support them in practical ways. Rescue missions require proper equipment, medical supplies, protective clothing, and transportation. If I had the resources, I would happily contribute to providing those things. The better prepared they are, the more lives they can save when another emergency happens.
One thing people hardly talk about is the emotional burden these rescuers carry. Seeing injured children, grieving families, and collapsed buildings can leave painful memories that don't disappear overnight. I believe they deserve access to counseling and mental health support just as much as they deserve medals or certificates.
I wouldn't stop there. I would also continue helping the survivors rebuild their lives. Donating to rebuild schools, homes, and hospitals would give families hope that life can slowly return to normal. Children, especially, deserve a safe place where they can learn, laugh, and dream again after experiencing such fear.
To me, kindness is never wasted. The people who stepped forward during the Venezuela earthquake reminded the world that even in the darkest moments, humanity still matter and humanity can still shine. If I ever have the chance to repay that kindness, I won't hesitate. Heroes don't always wear uniforms or appear on television. Sometimes they are simply ordinary people with extraordinary hearts, and they deserve to know that the world is grateful for what they have done.
