‎Hello Hives,

‎There are some things people consider a sign that someone has finally “made it” in life. A big house, expensive cars, designer clothes, luxury watches, fancy holidays and all those things that make people look successful.

‎But if I ever become very wealthy, there is one luxury I don't think I will be rushing to buy and that is an extremely expensive designer watch or fashion accessory.

‎Maybe I'm just not wired that way, but I have never really understood spending millions on something simply because it has a particular name written on it.

‎I like nice things. Who doesn't? 😂

‎If I have the money, I would definitely want to dress well and buy quality things. But I don't think I would look at a watch and say, “This one is ₦10 million, so I must have it because people will know I'm successful.”

‎Honestly, I would probably look at the price and start thinking about what else that money could do for me.

‎I could invest it in a business. I could improve my house. I could support my family. I could even put some of it into something that could generate more income for me in the future.

‎That's the way I see money. If I'm going to spend a large amount, I want to feel that I'm getting something meaningful in return instead of buying expensive luxury that will keep depreciating with time.

‎Sometimes I also feel that luxury can become a never-ending competition. Someone buys a new car, then another person wants a more expensive one. Someone buys a designer bag, and suddenly another person feels they need an even bigger brand.

‎Before you know it, you are no longer buying things because you truly like them. But you are buying them because you want people to notice.

‎For me, I would rather have financial peace than spend money trying to prove that I have money.

‎Give me a comfortable home, food in the house, money saved for emergencies, a source of income and the ability to take care of the people I love. That kind of “luxury” means much more to me.

‎Of course, I understand that people have different tastes. If someone genuinely loves luxury watches or designer bags and can comfortably afford them, I have nothing against it.

‎For me, though, expensive does not automatically mean valuable.
