Hello Hives,
When people hear the word poverty, the first thing that probably comes to mind is lack of money. No money to pay bills, no money to buy enough food, no money to take care of certain responsibilities.
But honestly, poverty can be much deeper than that.
Sometimes, it starts from the way you make decisions too.

When money is constantly tight, you start to think differently. You don't always choose what you really want. You choose what you can afford. You may have to forget about something you need because there is something else that needs your attention more urgently.
And this can go on for a very long time.
One thing I have noticed about financial struggles is that they can slowly change a person's dreams. You might have big plans when things are going well, but when survival becomes the main necessity, those plans can start looking like a luxury.
You tell yourself, "Maybe later."
Later can become next year.
Next year can become five years.
Before you know it, you have spent so much time trying to survive that you barely remember some of the things you once wanted for yourself.
Poverty can also affect relationships. Financial problems can bring arguments into homes. It can make someone avoid friends because they cannot afford to contribute when everyone is going out. It can even make a person feel ashamed of asking for help.
And asking for help is not always easy.
There are times when you know you need assistance, but your pride keeps telling you to manage somehow. You don't want people to see how difficult things have become.
That is another painful side of poverty that people don't always talk about.
But despite all these things, I believe we should never allow our financial situation to define our worth.
Having little money does not make someone less intelligent, less hardworking, or less deserving of a good life.
Sometimes, life simply puts people in tight situations.
If you are currently struggling, don't let your present situation convince you that your future is already decided. Keep learning. Keep working. Keep trying different things. Even when the progress is small, it is still progress.
And for those who are doing better financially, let's also learn to show some kindness. We don't always know what someone is going through behind closed doors.
Poverty may empty your pockets, but it should never be allowed to empty your hope.
