For today, curation will be on pause. I’m rewriting all the code for my voting bot to make it more precise. Every test uses up some of my voting mana, so at some point I’ll need to let it rest. It’s already dropped below 90%. It’s nothing serious, but today and tomorrow there’ll be a lot less post curation because I’m working on the code in my spare time.
I’m going to stop automated curation, which isn’t always fair.
This time, the bot will only find eligible posts. I’ll review them manually and remove any posts I don’t want before clicking the “Vote All” button. If everything goes well, it should vote on one eligible post every 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
You might be wondering: why that timer?
Well, I’m trying to do a bit of math:
To stay between 98% and 100% mana with votes set to 5%, space them about 7 minutes and 12 seconds apart—that’s around 8 votes per hour.
The calculation: A 5% vote uses about 0.1 mana points when your mana is close to 100%, and mana recharges by about 0.833 points per hour. That offsets roughly 8 votes per hour. To leave a little wiggle room, you can round it to one vote every 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
Hive mana recharges by 20% per day, and a 100% vote uses 2% of your remaining mana.

This is where I’m at so far: it silently refreshes every second to scan the blockchain and look for posts that meet the conditions set in the program. Any eligible posts it finds are added to a queue. If I approve them all, it votes once every 7 minutes and 30 seconds, which should keep my voting mana close to 100% continuously and improve my curation rewards.
Let’s wait for the timer to finish and check. As you can see in the scan screenshot, it found a post by “tasalo.”

Great, it voted on the post once the 7 minutes and 20 seconds were up, and the timer started for the next one. The test works!
I did hit one small snag during testing: whenever it found a new eligible post, it put it at the top of the queue instead of adding it after the posts it had already found. That’s fixed now, and everything is working. So I’ll test it under real conditions once my voting mana is back to 100% this weekend. The votes I used while testing the bot updates were handed out like candy at a fair, lol.
