নব্য মীরজাফর / The Modern-Day Mir Jafar
I wanted to convey from the poem that people do not become close just by being around, as we saw in the role of Mir Jafar during the reign of Nawab Sirajuddaula. Mir Jafar was a traitor. Despite being a close friend of the king, he committed extreme betrayal. So let's read the poem.
Bangla Version:
পাশে থাকলেই হয় না আপন চিত্র এ সমাজের
মীরজাফরও পাশেই ছিল নবাব সিরাজের।
কাছে থাকলেই হয় না জানা মন্দ নাকি ভালো
মুখটা দেখে যায় না বলা ভেতরটা কার কালো।
হর্ষমুখর প্রীতিকথায় যায় কি স্বরূপ চেনা?
জীবনযুদ্ধে পথ ের কাঁটা হয়তো কাছের জনা।
চেনামুখও অচেনা হয় এলে ক্রান্তিকাল
বিপত্তিটা ঘটায় কিন্তু কাছের বেড়াজাল।
সুসময়ের সাদর প্রীতি হয়তো কথার কলি
ঈর্ষার অনল পোড়ায় কিন্তু মনের অলিগলি।
দুঃসময়ে সামনে যেন বড়ই সমব্যথী
আড়াল হলেই মুচকি হেসে বদলে ফেলে রীতি।
শত্রু যখন মিত্র সাজে ভয়াল তার আঘাত
মীরজাফরের কূটচালে তাই নবাব কুপোকাত।
সঙ্গ পেলেই সঙ্গী ভেবে আনবে বিপদ ঘোর
এই সমাজে আজও আছে নব্য মীরজাফর।
English Version:
The Modern-Day Mir Jafar
Being close doesn't make someone your own, such is the picture of this society, Even Mir Jafar was right beside Nawab Siraj.Just being near doesn't reveal if one is good or bad, You cannot tell whose heart is dark just by looking at their face.
Can a person's true nature be known through joyful, affectionate words? In the battle of life, the thorn in your path might be someone close to you.Familiar faces turn unfamiliar when critical times arrive, It is the web of those nearby that usually causes the disaster.
Warm affection in good times might just be a flower of words, But the fire of jealousy burns the hidden alleys of the mind.In bad times, they appear upfront as if deeply sympathetic,But the moment you turn away, they smirk and change their ways.
When an enemy disguises as a friend, their strike is terrible, That is why the Nawab was defeated by Mir Jafar's conspiracy.Just because you have their company, thinking of them as a companion will bring grave danger, Even today, these modern-day Mir Jafars still exist in this society.
