I definitely really liked this week’s theme from @empowertalent— because life is undoubtedly a journey we all take—or are currently taking. We begin this beautiful journey holding onto our parents, who teach us values and how to ride the waves of life, and as we grow along this wonderful journey of life, we encounter seas full of turbulence, beautiful landscapes, unexpected detours, seasons of joy, and seasons of sadness.
It’s a journey that has a little bit of everything, but along the way we carry baggage we shouldn’t be carrying because it’s heavy. Yet we often carry it without understanding why—for example, we might be carrying fear and guilt. We carry this burden, fearing failure above all else, and without even thinking about that baggage, we sometimes leave things unfinished because of that very fear.
We may also carry regrets from the past—things we can no longer fix and things we regret—and sometimes we don’t understand that we need to leave the past behind; instead, we carry that burden, dragging it along in a suitcase that keeps getting heavier, and we even carry in it the expectations of others—things that others created for us, but that we don’t want— and we carry that weight to fulfill something just to please others—especially to please the people we love and don’t want to let down.
Another thing you carry in that suitcase, so heavily laden on life’s journey, might be resentment and anger—a burden heavier than an anvil—which not only weighs us down but also fills us with unease, illness, physical fatigue, and unnecessary exhaustion.
That’s why, on this journey of life, to truly enjoy the scenery and each stop along the way, it’s best to empty your suitcase of all the above—and to discard whatever is useless as you go—so you can travel unburdened, enjoying the scenery, learning from each stop, and creating many good memories, with as much freedom as possible and the peace we need.
Think for a moment: are you carrying the right things in that suitcase? And remember that when we say goodbye to this journey, we leave with nothing—not even clothes—so don’t weigh yourself down along the way, and learn to enjoy the scenery.
