At different stages of life, we face new challenges every day and different moments when, as partners, we decide whether to give up or keep going. This is this week’s topic, suggested by our friend @angelica7 in the @empowertalent community a topic worth reflecting on.
I’ve always believed that our parents’ parenting plays a major role in shaping who we become as people. From a young age, we can teach our children not to give up—whether through play or by helping them with homework. We, as parents, have a duty to teach them that not everything in life is easy. It’s like when we teach them to ride a bike we know they might fall many times, but in the end, they’ll learn and won’t fall anymore. They’ll succeed, and that’s because they didn’t give up.
Adult life is different, but we’ve already been taught not to give up. I remember in college, I was really struggling with Math 2 that class was giving me a hard time. I didn’t understand it, but I didn’t want to give up, so I really put my all into it after going over it for the third time. I didn’t give up until I finally passed that class—I made an extra effort to achieve what I wanted. We often think we can’t do something or get frustrated because we try and it doesn’t work out, but the important thing is not to give up. If it doesn’t work out right away, we take a break and then try again.
I’m the kind of person who’s persistent; I don’t give up easily because what you really want doesn’t come easily. My parents taught me not to give up and to always fight for what I want, and if I fall, I get back up and try again. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to reach the goal what matters is getting there.
I know many people who didn't give up, who keep moving forward despite life's adversities. I say, for example, that we Venezuelans are fighters; we haven't given up, we continue to be good, hardworking people, and yes, there's still a smile despite all the difficulties we've gone through, because soon we'll see the reward.
