Saludos amigos lectores

Sometimes in life we can lose our way a little, and this has happened to all of us at some point, because we’re all human. And, in one way or another, we may lose sight of the path we’re on, but we’re sure to find it again. This week’s topic is living on autopilot. Thanks to my friend @angelica07 for bringing up this topic, which really piqued my interest, since I was able to identify times and moments in my life when I’ve lost focus.

Living on autopilot means always following the same routine without finding any joy in life—just going through the motions because that’s what’s expected. Often, we feel dissatisfied, unmotivated, and ungrateful; we see things as simply happening because they have to, and that’s it. We do things because we have to, and we live because we have to.

There have been times in my life when this has happened to me—in fact, it happened to me just recently—because I was always following the same routine, I had nothing else to do, and I did things just because they had to be done, without finding any meaning in life. Even though I consider myself a grateful person, I think that in those moments I wasn’t grateful enough, because I could achieve anything yet didn’t feel the satisfaction I should have—I just didn’t care. I was living on autopilot without wanting to live that way.

Living on autopilot is like getting out of bed without any joy in life—that’s how I felt at the time. I felt like I didn’t have a clear purpose in life; it was like waking up and saying, “Here we go again—another day, same routine.” There was no satisfaction, and I had to do things just because I had to, until I realized the reality check I was going through and that I needed to make changes so I wouldn’t feel that way anymore.

I started changing some of my routines so they wouldn’t feel monotonous; I began doing other things that would also fulfill me, since my time was being consumed by doing things just to make a living and I didn’t have any time for myself. We know that Venezuelans work just to put food on the table, since there isn’t enough for many luxuries; however, we need to make time for leisure, and even if there aren’t many such moments, we have to make them happen, and it’s necessary to find moments—especially when you feel stuck—to release that tension and find different ways to keep life from becoming monotonous.

Not long ago, I got sick due to dental malpractice, which forced me to rest for almost a month. During that month, the routine was really tough for me—doing the same thing every day. However, today I look back and am grateful because I had the chance to rest and see things differently. We always need a reality check to truly appreciate things. Given everything that has happened in Venezuela, we need to be grateful for life and recognize that we are resilient people who can endure many things and move forward—and that the only thing standing between us and happiness is ourselves. There’s nothing better than the life many would love to have, and we have it.
