En estos días fui a realizar una diligencia al centro de la ciudad de Barquisimeto. Pasé por una zona que me pareció bastante interesante cuando pude estacionar justo al frente de una plaza, al frente está una construcción impresionante de carácter religioso, en verdad es imponente, pero lo que mas me llamó la atención es el contraste con el toque natural y acogedor de los arbustos y árboles verdes que se pueden apreciar en la plaza.

A few days ago, I went into downtown Barquisimeto to run an errand. I drove through an area that struck me as quite interesting when I was able to park right in front of a plaza. Across from it stands an impressive religious building—it’s truly majestic—but what caught my attention most was the contrast with the natural, welcoming feel of the green shrubs and trees that line the plaza.

Este es un sitio que está justo en el centro de la ciudad, pero que no está muy transitado, por lo menos por mi persona. Es un sitio solo de pasada, es mas, para esta tarea es poco usada. Justo a su altura, el tráfico es bastante fluido por las calles que mas se usan para cruzar la ciudad.

This is a spot right in the heart of the city, but it’s not very busy—at least not for me. It’s just a place I pass through; in fact, I hardly ever use it for this task. Right there, traffic flows quite smoothly along the streets most commonly used to cross the city.

Lo cierto es que me di cuenta de un gran edificio que está ubicado al lado de la iglesia que está por terminar y, según cuentan los vecinos, fue abandonado como proyecto, supongo alguna estafa inmobiliaria, y luego fue habitado con una especie de invasión, término común en nuestro país.

The truth is that I noticed a large building next to the church that’s nearing completion, and according to the neighbors, it was abandoned as a project—I suppose some kind of real estate scam—and was later occupied by squatters, a common occurrence in our country.

La plaza está bastante cuidada, tiene muchos colores y funciona como un espacio común de otro edificio que se levanta justo al final de la plaza. Supongo que los habitantes de ese edificio deben usar la plaza para pasar las tardes, conversar, caminar, respirar, ver pasar gente. En mi caso, practiqué varias de esas actividades, es un sitio único, fresco y con una energía bastante agradable.

The plaza is very well maintained, full of color, and serves as a common area for another building that stands right at the end of the plaza. I imagine the residents of that building must use the plaza to spend their afternoons, chat, take walks, get some fresh air, and watch people go by. As for me, I did several of those things—it’s a unique, refreshing place with a very pleasant energy.

Creo que estaré visitando este lugar con mas frecuencia, justo ahí, en el edificio abandonado, viven unos amigos y ahora, como puedo trasladarme con mas facilidad por la ciudad, entonces voy a aprovechar para estar por ahí cerca.

I think I'll be visiting this place more often. Right there, in that abandoned building, some friends of mine live, and now that I can get around the city more easily, I'm going to take the opportunity to hang out in that area.
