Tokyo Ghoul is up there with my all time favourite series, not just Anime, but every series of all kinds I have ever watched.
It has everything needed for a great series. A brilliant soundtrack, the story starts off fairly tame and nice, but soon gets rolling into some more nasty stuff.
The end of the first season and the beginning of the second is where you realise just how this series is going to go!
Those 2 episodes are amazing and made the series for me. The viciousness of them was top notch.

The story goes that flesh eating ghouls are invading Tokyo, blending in with the general population. The ghouls look identical to humans so it's easy for the ghouls to blend in.
Ken Kaneki is a college student who is quiet and spends his time buried in books. Trying his best to avoid the growing issues happening around him.
This is until he meets Rize Kamishiro, an attractive woman who asks him for a date.

Ken walks Rize home, where he finds out she isn't actually what she first seemed. She is a ghoul who had different plans for Ken and decides to act on those plans.
A struggle ensues and he wakes up later on in hospital. He finds out that his life was saved by using the organs of Rize who died.

As the series goes, Ken's body starts to change in some nasty ass ways. He turns into a Human-Ghoul hybrid, which makes him a target for both sides of the conflicts happening in Tokyo.

One of the best songs in Anime history is in this series. Unravel by TK.
It is a masterpiece and I couldn't think of a better fitting opener.
