Our mission in Timber takes an unexpected turn once again. After the failed attempt to capture President Deling, the city is shaken by a live television broadcast that will change the course of the story.
President Deling appears before the public, but this time he isn't alone.
Standing beside him is a mysterious woman dressed in black, introduced to the world as the Sorceress Edea. From the very first moment she appears, it's impossible not to feel that she possesses an overwhelming presence. She doesn't need to raise her voice or draw a weapon—everyone around her seems to fear her.
As the speech continues, the atmosphere becomes heavier. You can tell that something terrible is about to happen.
📺 A Broadcast No One Will Forget
One of the things I admire most about Final Fantasy VIII is how it builds tension.
There are no explosions or giant battles at first.
Just a speech.
A crowd watching in silence.
And the feeling that history is unfolding right in front of our eyes.
Then, just when no one expects it...
Seifer appears.
Without hesitation, he challenges the Sorceress directly. It's a reckless decision, but if we've learned anything about Seifer, it's that he never backs down from a fight, no matter the odds.
⚔️ A Fight That Ends Too Soon
Watching Seifer confront Edea is both exciting and unsettling.
He believes he has a chance.
The Sorceress barely seems concerned.
In a matter of moments, the battle is over.
Seifer is completely overwhelmed by powers far beyond anything we've seen so far. For an instant, it feels as though this might be the end for him.
Has Seifer really died?
Before anyone can answer that question, something even stranger happens.
Instead of finishing him off, Edea takes Seifer with her, leaving everyone wondering why she spared him and what she could possibly want with him.
It's one of those cliffhangers that makes it impossible not to continue playing.
🌙 A New Threat Emerges
Until now, our enemies had been soldiers, monsters, and political figures.
The appearance of the Sorceress changes everything.
For the first time, it feels as though we're facing someone who exists on an entirely different level. Her powers are almost supernatural, and the calm confidence she displays makes her even more intimidating.
From this moment on, the adventure feels much larger than a mission in Timber.
A new chapter has begun.

💭 Final Thoughts
This episode reminded me why Final Fantasy VIII has remained one of my favorite JRPGs for so many years.
Just when the story seems focused on politics and resistance movements, it suddenly introduces a character capable of changing the entire world with her mere presence.
And then there's Seifer.
Was this the last time we'll see him?
Or is the Sorceress planning something far more sinister?
I already know the answers from my first playthrough many years ago, but replaying these scenes still gives me the same feeling of anticipation.
Some moments simply never lose their magic.
