Our adventure in Final Fantasy VIII continues, and we're getting closer to one of the most important confrontations of the story. After preparing our plan to defeat Sorceress Edea, it's time to move through the underground passages of Deling City, searching for a way to reach our destination without being discovered.
Of course, things are never as simple as they sound.
Instead of heading directly toward the Sorceress, we find ourselves exploring a confusing network of sewers, filled with narrow passages, unexpected encounters, and plenty of places where it's easy to lose our way. And while the mission above ground continues moving forward, we have to figure out how to navigate this underground maze.
The Sorceress is waiting, but first we need to find our way out! ๐
๐ Beneath the Streets of Deling City
One of the things I've always enjoyed about Final Fantasy VIII is how the game manages to turn even a relatively simple objective into an adventure of its own.
The sewers of Deling City are a perfect example.
At first, the task seems straightforward: explore the underground passages and find the correct route. But once we're inside, everything starts looking strangely similar. There are gates, waterways, ladders, and different paths that make navigation more complicated than expected.
I have to admit that these sections can be a little frustrating, especially when you think you've finally found the correct path only to discover another dead end. ๐
But that's also part of the charm of classic RPGs. They don't always tell you exactly where to go. Sometimes you have to explore, make mistakes, remember where you've been, and slowly figure things out.
And knowing that we're in the middle of an important mission makes every wrong turn feel even more dramatic.
๐ฎ The Sorceress Is Getting Closer
While we're wandering through the sewers, it's impossible to forget why we're here.
Sorceress Edea remains our main objective.
Ever since her mysterious appearance during President Deling's television broadcast, the story has been building toward this confrontation. We've seen her extraordinary powers, witnessed Seifer's disappearance, and learned just how dangerous this mission could become.
Now the preparations are almost complete, and the tension is beginning to rise.
What I particularly like about this part of the game is how it alternates between different kinds of challenges. One moment we're dealing with political intrigue and carefully planned operations, and the next we're trying to find our way through an underground labyrinth.
It makes the entire mission feel much bigger than a simple boss encounter.
And although we're getting closer to Edea, we still haven't fought her. There's more ground to cover before that moment finally arrives.
๐ฎ The Charm of Classic RPG Exploration
Replaying these sections reminds me how different games felt during the original PlayStation era.
There weren't always obvious objective markers or convenient navigation systems guiding every step. You had to pay attention to your surroundings, experiment with different routes, and sometimes accept that getting lost was part of the experience.
The sewers might not be the most beautiful location in Final Fantasy VIII, especially compared with Balamb Garden or the impressive streets of Deling City, but they contribute something important to the atmosphere.
We're not exploring for treasure or collecting cards this time.
We're trying to complete a dangerous mission, and every step brings us closer to a confrontation that could change everything.

๐ญ Final Thoughts
This episode is another important step toward the confrontation we've been preparing for since arriving in Galbadia.
We've already collected powerful Guardian Forces, welcomed Irvine into the team, and learned about the operation against Edea. Now it's time to put the plan into motion, even if that means spending a while wandering through the sewers.
I enjoy how Final Fantasy VIII builds anticipation instead of rushing directly into its biggest moments. Every obstacle makes the eventual confrontation feel more significant.
For now, we're still underground, searching for the right path.
The mission isn't over, and the Sorceress is still waiting. ๐ฎโ๏ธ
