This evening was a little different. During my break from work, my eyes suddenly caught sight of some simple and beautiful clay objects arranged on a corner of the sidewalk at the local market. In this busy city life where plastic, ceramic and glass utensils dominate, it is really difficult to see these simple clay art works. Once upon a time, the daily use of clay pitchers, pots, plates and bowls was a very normal thing in our rural Bengal, which is almost on the verge of extinction today due to the evolution of time.

The shop had a very well-organized arrangement of various clay objects. I was overwhelmed for a while as I looked at the remains of those lost traditions. In addition to the simple pots and pans, there were some beautiful and perfectly crafted clay pots, which looked like they had been made with great care by the artisan. The small, handcrafted matkas or clay glasses and bowls especially attracted me greatly. When I looked at them closely, I felt as if these designs were telling the story of the simple and smooth life of our thousand-year-old beautiful Bengal.

With the touch of modernity, it is no longer customary to cook or eat food in clay pots. However, some amateurs still use these clay plates and glasses to decorate their homes or to serve traditional food on special occasions. While returning from the market, I was thinking about how diverse and environmentally friendly our past traditions were. Rarely do such scenes come to mind, and without realizing it, I want to go back to those simple days of old. So, out of my own love, I captured the scenes in frames, so that they remain bright in the pages of memory forever.
