Before the hustle and bustle of the city begins, some small food shops spring up on the side of the road. We affectionately call them ‘tong shops’. One such wonderful tong shop was the experience of having breakfast one day.

The shop was quite small and open. There was a tin roof and a red polythene canopy on top. A strange and magical atmosphere was created as soon as the morning light fell on this small world surrounded by bashen poles and fences.

A row of red plastic stools were arranged in front of the shop. Customers were sitting on them comfortably and eating hot breakfast. Right in the middle stood a large electric pole, on which various posters and advertising papers were pasted. All in all, it was a living picture of the authentic local environment.

As soon as I entered the shop, I saw a busy scene. All the employees were busy working. A glass showcase was beautifully arranged on a red table. Hot fried luchi was kept inside it. Cooking is underway on a large aluminum deck nearby. The entire place is decorated with red and gold printed cloth.

On one side, a worker is quickly frying luchi in a hot oil pan. The air is heavy with the sound of oil splashing and the aroma of hot luchi. Smoke rises from the hot tea kettle. Everyone seems to be doing their own thing.

Sitting on a red stool in front of the shop, a man is happily tearing hot luchi into his mouth. Seeing his satisfying meal made my hunger grow even greater. Another customer is standing there ordering his food. The surrounding environment was also quite lively. A large truck and van are parked in the distance. All in all, this ordinary morning scene on the side of the road created a strange feeling in my mind.

The food in these tong shops tastes like nectar. Hot luchi with fried or curried meat and a cup of hot tea at the end—this is the real satisfaction of a Bengali breakfast. This genuine taste of food and the simple atmosphere are what draws people to these shops again and again.

The shop has no name, no glitz. But there is a crowd of people, laughter and a sincere love for food. For those who love this fresh morning atmosphere and the taste of simple roadside food, these tang shops are truly a wonderful destination. There is no nobility in the food here, but there is a strange pull of life. These shops are like a small break from the busy life of every day that refreshes our minds. If you too get time one day, one morning you should visit this tang shop on the roadside and eat. You will see that your mind will feel better in an instant.
