After last week's declining metrics (the news of my demise is greatly exaggerated), I'm pleased to report that my X Blue metrics are on the rise again.

As you can see, impressions are up 9 percent in the last 7 days. That equates to roughly 1,300 more impressions than the previous 7 days.

While impressions went up, as did profile visits and media views, engagement rate declined a full 36 percent. Profile visits were up 500 percent and media views went up 42 percent. Other declining metrics included:

  • New followers declined 40 percent
  • Replies declined 43 percent
  • Likes declined 6.9 percent

Link clicks and reposts remained steady.

While new followers fell significantly, I still picked up 9 new followers versus the 15 I picked up the previous week. I do consider new followers a significant metric as my X account is still young and small, so every new follower is precious to me. However, if I continue to pick up 9 to 15 new followers every week, that's upwards of 40 new followers per month. At some point, due to amplification and magnification, I expect those numbers to go up over time with consistent posting. I'm not at all disappointed.

Impressions and Engagements

I think the main reason engagement fell this week is because I got busy with my book sales that I didn't schedule some posts over the weekend as I wanted to do. That's evident by the decline in impressions during those days as shown on the following chart.

Still, my posts saw 3,300 impressions. So, while declining over the weekend, my posts actually saw more impressions than usual at the beginning of the week. The best day was Thursday, February 29, which claimed 816 organic impressions. The day before registered 694 impressions. The day previous to that saw 474 impressions. Those three days alone indicate 1,984 impressions, almost two-thirds the total for the week. Of the other four days, only two of them had less than 300 impressions. The average per day was 436.

The engagement rate for the week was 2.0 percent. The highest was on February 27 when my posts achieved an engagement rate of 3.6 percent. They steadily declined until March 2 when engagement rate was at .3 percent. It has gone back up to 2 percent since then.

Retweets average 1 per day, or 8 total for the week. Likes averaged 4 per day, or 26 total for the week. Again, you can see the steady decline in likes up to March 2 and the subsequent rise again afterward.

Top Posts on X

I love looking to see which of my posts performed the best during the previous week. Usually, I see one or two standouts, posts with impressions and/or engagement rate way above all the others. This week, that's not the case. At least, as far as impressions go.

The top post received 36 impressions over the previous 7 days. The next best post saw 35 impressions. After that, two posts tied with 33 impressions. A full two-thirds of my posts had 30 more impressions.

The top post, published March 2, was a random post highlighting an anecdotal incident I witnessed while selling books at a Kroger grocery store on that day.

The post with the second highest number of impressions was a poll I ran about reading books. Published on February 27, I learned that half of the respondents fall asleep while reading while the other half feel enlightened.

The post with the highest engagement rate, 25.7 percent, was the poll.

The second highest engagement rate was 14.3 percent. It was a repurposed @Actifit post published on February 29.

The third highest engagement rate was 13.3 percent. Published on February 28, the post featured a meme about hiring a book editor.

In terms of raw engagements, there were two posts that received 3 each. Published on February 28, a retweet highlights the Story Protocol that facilitates intellectual property holders licensing their IP rights. The Actifit post mentioned above was the other one.

Based on these metrics, I wouldn't call out any of the posts published in the last 7 days as dominant. Several did okay, but none of them did great. My impressions were higher than normal while engagement rate suffered a bit. I'll get the hang of this thing yet.
