From playing cunning politicians to complex, multi-layered antagonists, Aidan Gillen has done it all. Born on April 24, 1968, in Dublin, Ireland, Gillen comes from a regular background; his parents were not involved in show business. His versatility has lit up the screens, most notably as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish in HBO's epic fantasy, "Game of Thrones."
Early Life and Career
Gillen grew up in a modest setting in Dublin. While details about his educational background are scarce, what we do know is he was bitten by the acting bug early. His first professional role came in 1985 in a Dublin Youth Theatre production. His first taste of major success was as Stuart Alan Jones in the TV series "Queer as Folk" in 1999.
However, it was the role of Petyr Baelish in "Game of Thrones," beginning in 2011, that catapulted him into international stardom. This role earned him critical acclaim and numerous nominations, including an Irish Film & Television Award.
In his private life, Gillen is a bit of an enigma. He's been married and has children, but tends to keep personal details close to the vest. He has not been the subject of any major scandals or controversies and is generally private about his philanthropic efforts, if any.
In terms of what's next, Gillen is part of a couple of ongoing projects like "Kin" and "Mayor of Kingstown," with release dates extending into 2023.
Aidan Gillen has been a chameleon in the entertainment industry. His varied roles across television and film have cemented him as a versatile, reliable, and electrifying actor, making him a staple in contemporary cinema and television. His performances leave a lasting impression, making him an indispensable part of Hollywood's storytelling landscape.
