Greatest Hits is the eleventh official album and first compilation for English musician Elton John, released in November 1974 by DJM Records, MCA Records and Polydor Limited. The album spans the years 1970 to 1974 and compiles ten of Elton John's singles. The album was produced by Gus Dudgeon.
It topped the albums chart in both the United States and the United Kingdom, spending ten consecutive weeks at number one in the United States and eleven weeks at number one in the United Kingdom. Also in Canada, it was number one for 13 weeks between December 14, 1974 and March 22, 1975, only missing December 28, 1974. It also landed at number 2 to Jim Croce's Photographs & Memories.
Greatest Hits was a major commercial success, becoming his first album to receive the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) diamond certification for sales of over 10 million copies in the United States. Additionally, Greatest Hits was the best-selling album of 1975 in the United States, being John's second best-selling album to date. Additionally, as of April 2016, the album has been certified for 17 million units in the US.
Greatest Hits remains Elton John's best-selling album in the US and one of the best-selling albums of all time, with sales of more than 24 million copies worldwide. Although all of its songs are available for download, the album is currently out of print and has been superseded by four other major hits released over the years. Greatest Hits is an album with truly great songs, it's hard to call just one song my favorite. I can say that the songs I listen to most in the album are "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Rocket Man" and "Your Song".

I think all three are great works. Especially "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is a really great song, this song comforts me when I encounter sadness and grief.
