Today I was lurking online when I saw a video of the upcoming Jurassic World movie called "Jurassic World: Rebirth" schedule to release on July 2 of this year, things were slow at work on the IT dep so I decided to pull up my third favorite Jurassic movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom; aside from the original soft reboot I really enjoy it but didn't remember much of it so it was kinda blackout for me so decided to refresh my memory. It's a movie that tries to evolve the franchise far beyond the typical dinosaur park theme formula but it didn't quite achieve it, this time with massive monster and a bit more of context of how things came to happen, Dinosaurs come into the city. The movie back then directed by J.A Bayona didn't broke records like their previous movie on 2015 that made over $1 billion at the Box Office world wide, this time only $800 million, while the 2015 version was the second best movie in terms of performance on 2015, yes I had to look this up but I did remember it did great at the BO when it came out, I actually went to the movies to watch Jurassic World (2015) with my family.

The movie develops after the events of the original Jurassic World movie, exactly three years latter after Isla Nublar blew up, you wont have to guess why, VOLCANO!!!!. I enjoy this movie because it really felt like a continuation that end up working very well, specially the hole concept of having Dinosaurs go into the city, all those massive ones been loose out there causing all kind of problems. There are things the concept wont escape from, like Dinosaurs, Extinction, Hunters but this time the movie turns a bit of a horror movie with Owen Grady played by Chris Patt aka Starlord, as the trainer going back to the island looking for Blue, part of his trained Dinosaurs squat but Blue was more than that to him, not a pet but a friend.
The movie is very entertaining and never boring, but it doesn't quite capture the magic and nostalgia of the original Jurassic Park and I don't consider it better than the 2015, that's the thing sequels most of the time are not as good as the original, I guess there wont be other like the original from 1993 neither. There are a lot of tense action scenes with people at risk, after all most Dinosaurs in the city can be a human predator, but as always there were a few scenes that might make you feel sad for these creatures, so I applaud the effort and it is an OK movie to watch if you are a fanatic of continuation and Jurassic Park movies.

Owen and Claire come back and this time into rescue mission mode, trying to go back to the Island and safe a as many Dinosaur they can from the volcano. Claire kinda throw off the corporate style and now is more of an activist. Owen brings back the humor into the movie but there is also the romantic aspect of their relationship that to be honest felt a bit forced at times and underdeveloped, was almost like telling the audience "you already know whats next with this two..." as actors the chemistry was there but its mostly the script that made it felt force.
This movie follow the steps of the 2015 version with horror on it, director J.A Bayona bet on the same framework based on the success of their 2015 movie, he really knows how to create tension with the Mansion set of scenes where a Dinosaur called the Indoraptor a new hybrid creature created on a lab, the tight spaces with not much lighting makes it look very intimidating as its chasing Maisie through the house. The volcano eruption scene was also a very good one, the camera angles taking the dinosaurs stampede trying to get away, some fleeing from the island, others falling into the water, they were just trying to get as far as they could from the lava and the ash creating an awesome moment of panic that makes you feel bad for this creatures. There are some cool scenes along the movie that lift up the fantasy side of it like when Owen draw blood from a T Rex to safe Blue after it got shot, this dinosaurs movies tend to use a lot of practical effects and animatronics just as on the first movie, one of the reasons while combined with CGI makes it look like it was actually real.

There is another aspect, I forgot to mention; that seem we never going to escape from when it comes to Jurassic World movies and that's genetic engineering, now days something that has become a true concern when it comes to try to replicate life, similar to AI is playing to be God at certain point, something that in movies never tend to go well, it is the case of the Indoraptor on this movie same as on the 2015 version.
What throws me off from the movie is the ending, Maisie is a clone of Lockwood's death daughter, clones are never the same as the original, this time I think the movie takes that in consideration when she release captive dinosaurs into the wild saying "They are alive, like me" does she knows she is a clone??. This was a very bold move from the movie because it sets the idea that Dinosaurs will now be living among humans just like any other pet? I mean this happens right after they defeat the Indoraptor. I'm not so sure how this is going to work out because it does look like the direction of the franchise is to finally make it look that its the new normal world with Dinosaurs not living in a set Park or Island anymore and with humans at the city, the most possible savage kind of animals that have live on Earth to coexist with humans in a modern world with pollution, plans, traffic, makes me wonder how they going to manage this aspects of the world on the next movie or are dinosaurs going to be fully docile?
Overall I did enjoy the movie, brought back memories and even made me want to watch the 2015 version in the next days but I cant denied that the direction this movie took towards the end is not my favorite. Acting was great again and the CGI was ok, usually animals are very hard to recreate with CGI specially when they talk but it seems that dinosaurs are so much more of a CGI polished product that they look great, just like the Indoraptor during dark scenes. This movie is a mixed bag of opinions at the end, it delivers enough to be entertaining to justify making a sequel but as usual not as good, the script sometimes felt like it struggles with giving new motives other than rescuing Blue, specially the relationship between Owen and Claire that needed more development. Fallen Kingdom might not be the best production of the franchise is a good addition to it and only makes me feel very intrigue about whats next this year when dinosaur are not anymore far away from the city but at the city.
